Product Description The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is a strict grain-free, lactose-free, and sucrose-free dietary regimen intended for those suffering from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (both forms of IBD), celiac disease, IBS, cystic fibrosis, and autism. It is based on the work of Elaine Gottschall, who wrote Breaking the Vicious Cycle, which introduces the SCD and explains the importance of eliminating certain carbohydrates in order to alleviate digestive ailments such as IBD, IBS, and celiac disease. For those suffering from gastrointestinal illnesses, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) offers a method for easing symptoms and pain, and ultimately regaining health. Recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet(TM) offers a diverse and delicious collection of 150 SCD-friendly recipes, that includes over 80 dairy-free recipes. The easy-to-make and culturally diverse recipes featured in the book include breakfast dishes, appetizers, main dishes, and desserts such as -- Hazelnut-Vanilla Pancakes, Olive Sandwich Bread, Chicken Satay, Roasted Bass with Parsley Butter, Thin Crust Pizza, Gretel's Gingerbread Cookies, and Mango Ice Cream. It is accompanied by 40 full-color photos that will inspire you to get cooking again. In addition, personal anecdotes accompany each section of this book. You can find out more about this book on-line at www.scdrecipe.com/cookbook/.

Delicious!!! April 27, 2008 Sophie Moochhala (Mumbai, India) Raman Prasad has done it again! After Colitis & Me: A Story of Recovery and "Recipes from the Family Kitchen", Raman has put together a collection of simple but superb SCD recipes. I really appreciate the thought that has gone into crafting each recipe and love the international flavor of the recipes. Highly recommend the Sage Chicken with Portobellos, Ruma's Layered Pot Roast (divine!) and the Wild Salmon Over Vegetables. I am not on the SCD diet - but use his cookbook as a way of eating delicious, nutritious and healthy food. Thanks Raman - and I look forward to your next book!
Delicious April 15, 2008 Ravi Prasad I've had the rare privilege of being tantalized by Raman's cooking for years. Despite the fact that the Specific Carbohydrate Diet limits him from using several ingredients that some would consider staples, he continually satisfies both the stomach and the palette. In short, this recipe book is a gift. Even if you cannot live in proximity to Raman or sample his fare from his own kitchen, you can still savor his recipes. I admit some bias: the author is my brother. However, no food like this existed in my family before Raman and any remaining partiality is easily overwhelmed by my adoration of good food. My nose and taste buds would have led me here regardless.
My Taste Buds are Overjoyed! April 13, 2008 W. Wiswell (Texas) This is a beautiful recipe book. Gorgeous photographs. It has helped boost my cooking burnout with a host of new recipes that are very easy to follow with basic ingredients (mostly), and lots of variety. So far I've made 3 recipes and LOVE them all! The shepherd's pie was AWESOME. I added extra cheese, because you can never have enough. I cannot say enough good things about the focaccia bread, it's absolutely MOUTH WATERING. I brought some to a dinner party and they were fighting over it. The third recipe I tried is the pizza which was so nice and simple. I hadn't had pizza for a couple years and this will easily become a weekly dinner for me. Thanks Raman!!
Great New Cookbook! April 8, 2008 California Reader I am a foodie with stomach issues, so thank goodness for this cookbook! Mr. Prasad has created a diverse menu, using easy-to-find ingredients and shown-off through great photos. And for the millions of us suffering from certain gastro ailments, we can stop worrying about every meal. Most important, the food tastes great. Thank you, Mr. Prasad!
Great Eating and Reading April 8, 2008 M. Wetzel 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my favorite kind of cookbook. The recipes are excellent and easy to follow. In addition, the stories and glimpses into Raman Prasad's family and background made the book so much more interesting.
