5 out of 5 stars better than sunbeam model   April 20, 2008
D. M. Grooms (georgetown, Ohio-USA)
I was lucky, I got this for $11 at a auto garage that had a bunch of refurbished items like this in the back, on sale around x-mas, 2006. It makes a much better crust and loaf than the Sunbeam model 5891, which I just bought from amazon. The sunbeam is ok, but I dont like the ridges in the pan, and the texture of the bread didnt seem as fluffy as the breadman. Overall, the breadman seems better, but the cheaper Sunbeam is a good value for just getting out some bread.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic breadmaker   March 31, 2008

I have had this bread maker for at least 3 years now and it's still going strong. I don't use it everyday but when I do, it's mostly used for making dough.

I make my own cinnamon rolls and yeast rolls so the dough setting is excellent because it does all of my kneading for me. All I have to do is dump the dough out and roll it out for by cinnamon rolls (or form the dough for the yeast rolls). It's an excellent workhorse even when working with the heavy, thick doughs.

It's really durable too. I've learned that you might want to put a non skid pad or dish towel underneath it because the agitating action when it's kneading makes the machine move. Mine actually walked itself right off the countertop to my horror, but kept right on mixing. When I picked it up it was completely fine and has worked just fine ever since. (That was a year ago.)

I've known people who have purchased this and used it every single day to keep fresh bread in the house. The rate that I use it (roughly once a week) this machine should be just fine years and years from now.

5 out of 5 stars Very good machine, not too expensive   March 22, 2008
Sean S. Safron (Hurley, NY USA)
I bought this bread machine as a replacement for my 10-15 year old "Toastmaster Bread Box" machine which finally gave out. The new machine works well. All the loaves I've tried have turned out very well, and have tasted very good. The bread pan is a lot lighter weight than the Toastmaster pan, but I cannot tell if it makes any difference.

The "Super Rapid" setting is great! It actually bakes a good loaf in 59 minutes. To use this feature, the included recipes call for lots of Super QuickRise or RapidRise yeast (like 6 teaspoons). The super rapid white bread came out a little too chewy for my taste, but the raisin bread was great.

The machine comes with an instruction manual that contains 7 Super Rapid recipes, and 2 regular recipes. An extra recipe book contains about 20 additional bread and dough recipes.

4 out of 5 stars The baker in all of us   January 15, 2008

I have had this bread machine for about 2 weeks now and have used it at least 10 times. Before that, I never baked a loaf of bread in my life, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I have been very satisfied with the machine so far. Like others have said, if you like a light crust, you won't be able to acheive that by baking in the machine, but I like a chewy crust so it's not a problem. I have made several types of bread and also pizza dough and everything has come out nicely. Operation is very easy and so is cleanup. My machine is heavy and does not move on the countertop as others have experienced.

My only quibbles with the machine are that it does not reveal the steps in the cycles -- either on the display or in the manual. You just have to trust that it knows what it's doing. Also, I got the machine to save money on bread, but how can you save money when you're constantly making loafs and giving them away to friends and neighbors??? OK, maybe not the machine's fault. Overall I am happy with my purchase and recommend this machine.

5 out of 5 stars Breadmaking is actually easy.   January 13, 2008

I am still amazed at how long we dwelt in the desert of crappy bread. We are not baker types and don't have loads of time. A family member suggested we try one after we complained about the terrible bread in the supermarkets with lots of added sugar and little fiber. This is our first breadmaking device and we are definitely in love. So far not a bad loaf. We've had it a week and a half. We are waking up to perfectly made bread with lots of fiber and flavor and the crusts are far better than I had imagined they would be with a machine! The Breadman is easy to use. It's forgiving of mistakes and it makes pasta and pizza dough. Great entry level machine. I think going forward we would like a horizontal baker but we'll use this one till it gives out.
