Product Description
Wow! Here's a cooker that does it all: roasting, steaming, stewing and boiling. Cook meats, grains, veggies and seafood. Great for living spaces with limited kitchen facilities, or for those times when you could use an extra burner or more space in the oven.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!! Does What the Others Can't Do!!!   June 18, 2008
Daquan13 (East Boston, MA.)
This unit deep fries, steams, boils, sautes, slow cooks and even roasts!!

It's a very versatile helper and a marvel in the kitchen! I've used it for just about everything imaginable!!

I truly like the fact that when you're done using it, you can wash it by hand or in the dishwasher with the heat control removed, of course. Great little appliance!!

5 out of 5 stars The most important tool in my kitchen   May 25, 2008
Karen E. Edgar (Mississippi)
I received an early version of this pot in 1988, and it is still the most used and important tool in my kitchen. I love that everything but the cord can go into the sink or dishwasher; and I love the controlled heat (150-400F). Mine has been used to blanch my garden veggies for freezing; it's a GREAT pasta pot, and an accurate deep fryer if you don't overload it. I love it for chili and gumbo; and HEY, IT ALSO SLOW COOKS! Toss those crocks in the next yard sale...this one does it ALL. The low heat settings also make it great for holding soup, stew, and dip during the "big game." A beautiful buffet piece for entertaining. I've even kept hot cider in it for the holidays. Non-stick is a huge bonus too. And after I fry, I can stash the unit in the fridge to store the oil for next time. It's a kitchen in a box.

3 out of 5 stars All or nothing   May 10, 2008
David Fiedler (NYC)
Well, it's convenient, but the way this pot works is that once you bring the liquid to a boil, if you want it to simmer it alternates between no heat and full heat. So, every so often it will get to boiling wildly then shut off, and keep going this way. I'd rather have something (like a rice cooker?) that would actually keep a simmer going with constant low heat.

2 out of 5 stars Presto Multi-Cooker   April 17, 2008
JN Hansen
This is the second Presto Multi-cooker I have had. The first one was wonderful, but after having it for about 7 years, I dropped it and broke a plastic foot off. Instead of trying to replace it, I bought a new cooker.

The new one is very similar, the only difference being the temperature control. Whereas the control on the first one was fantastic, the new control is not nearly as good. For example, if I set the temp of the first control on 212 deg (boiling), water in the pot did just that, it boiled very slowly. Other temp setting were also good.

The new control is very different. In order to adjust to just boiling, one has to set the control way down into "Warm" and the only way to get a temp you want is to just play with it. The numbers on the control mean nothing other than higher numbers give higher temps.

Other than the problem with the new control, the new cooker is just as good at the old one. Identical, in fact.

4 out of 5 stars Not a uni-tasker! Overall a good value   February 26, 2008

I had one of those electric deep fryers that only did deep frying. Hard to clean, not very big, smelly.

This one is a dream to clean. Take the plug off and put it in the dishwasher! How easy is that?

It's good size. I used it to make doughnuts and it will hold 4-5 at a time. The strainer basket is nice. The handle folds in so you can store it easily.

Downside: It takes a while for the oil to heat to correct temp. The ready light is NOT a good indicator of the temp. I use a candy thermometer. But the candy thermometer won't fit (mine is a clip on) while the basket is in place. Takes a few minutes after the ready light goes on to reach temp. Also, the little footpads seem to stick to my countertop. I suspect those things will come off after a while.

I bought this primarily to deep fry in, but have used it to steam vegies. Does a fine job at that. Have not tried it out as a rice cooker yet.

Overall, a good value. Price was right and it really is easy to clean.
