great machine, but not immortal July 10, 2008 Emily H. Butler (Surrey, England) I bought my 10-cup Zojirushi two and a half years ago, and have used it on average three times a week ever since. It's been pretty great, but at this point the teflon on the bowl is completely shot and must be replaced (note that I've used the plastic paddle almost exclusively and have never scratched the bowl with a metal utensil). A replacement bowl is about fifty bucks, so be aware that even if you tenderly wash it by hand, it has a life-span of about two years.
Warning - Aluminum Inner Lid! July 5, 2008 C. Far (Pt. Richmond, CA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After reading all the reviews on fuzzy logic rice cookers, I was very excited to order the Zojirushi NS TGC10 model. When I recieved it, I was dismayed to see that the detachable inner lid was made of aluminum! It's my understanding that it's very unhealthy to cook foods in direct contact with aluminum. I called the seller who told me that all of the Chinese-made fuzzy logic models are made this way.
I ended up getting the higher quality, Japanese-made induction fuzzy rice cooker by Zojirushi which has a stainless steel detachable inner lid. Which I love! It makes the absolute best rice (brown and white) that I've ever had! It was pricy, but I think worth it as a long term cooking and health investment.
Bottom line -- if having your rice cook with direct aluminum contact is a concern for you, just remember -
Zojirushi Japanese-made fuzzy logic INDUCTION rice cookers GOOD...
Zojirushi Chinese-made fuzzy logic NON-INDUCTION rice cookers BAD!
Great Rice Cooker May 14, 2008 Victor Huynh (Seattle, WA USA) I used this for a long time and it never gave me any problem. One good thing about it is the cooking rice stay good for a very long time without becoming stale or spoiled. Brown rice cooking is great too.
Good rice cooker (at least my wife says so) March 20, 2008 A. Fear (Austin, TX) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I gave this product 4 stars because its expensive. I'm not a cook, I can barely make pancakes, but my wife lives this product so I have it a high rating.
I can't really say much more except she says the quality of the rice compared to cheaper ricer cookers is leaps and bounds. And I trust her since she is Vietnamese.
So there you go, buy it if you want good rice!
If you're serious about cooking rice, then this is it... March 16, 2008 DC (Chicago, IL) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Zojirushi makes the best rice cookers hands down: better than Sanyo, Tiger, or Panasonic. Don't believe me? Go into a Korean or Japanese speaking house and take a look in their kitchen.
This one is great! The thick, non-stick pan consistently cooks the rice nice and even, but the best feature is that it will keep the rice perfectly warm for a couple of days. Most non-Japanese made rice cookers will not even keep your rice warm for a couple of hours without creating excess condensation, browning on the bottom, or gluttonous rice.
People who complain about paying this much for a rice cooker must not have grown up eating sticky rice, or must not have ever been to an Asian grocery store. This isn't made for cooking Uncle Ben's. Even the most frugal Asian families don't skimp on their rice cooker.
A rice cooker is not a slow cooker and shouldn't ever double as one. Crappy American, Chinese made brands advertise this as an added feature. Don't be fooled. If you want restaurant quality rice, buy quality rice and use a Japanese made rice cooker that is dedicated to cooking rice.
The only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because most Asian grocery stores sell this particular model for much less. I bought mine for $119.
Another piece of advice, do not use an abrasive sponge with heavy detergent to clean the pan. Read the instructions. Soak and wipe.
