4 out of 5 stars Bento goodness   August 25, 2008

Japanese lunch boxes, also known as bentos, are a handy way to pack a daily lunch, much better than the old brown paper bag. They are adjustable and reusable, easy to carry and clean, and are pretty much the perfect container to suit the need.

This is a pretty standard model, and one that I bring to work almost every day. It isn't huge, but holds enough food to satisfy an adult. There are three trays that can be used to separate foods so they won't leak on each other or mix together. The trays can be removed as needed or taken out altogether if you want one big portion of something. The lid clamps down nice and tight. It won't keep liquids from pouring out, but anything else is safe.

There are a lot of fancier bentos out there, like the two-tiered kind that come with chopstick holders, or with nicer colors and designs. The ones with anime characters and such are almost all child-sized, and won't get you through the day. This one is a little plain, but it does the job just fine. I have a two-tiered bento also, but I use up ending this one more often because of its adjustability.
